Meet the pupils of Rang 6 agus Rang 5
Oíche Shamhna 2019: We had lots of fun baking and decorating Hallowe'en cupcakes which included lots of Numeracy activities as well as Procedural Writing activities. The buns were fun to make and good to eat! We dressed up on the Friday before mid-term break! Happy Hallowe'en!
VEX ROBOTICS 2019-2020
VEX: We have been very busy over the last few months learning about STEM and robotics. As part of the VEX programme we had to build a robot. We all learned how to identify and put the pieces together and set about building this year's recommended robot "Clutch". The instructions were quite difficult to read and we made a few mistakes along the way. We had to learn how to work together and to solve the problems and we eventually got the robot made. We built the pieces for the competition field and set it up. We learned how to drive the robot but before long that the "Clutch" design wasn't great for this year's game "Squared Away" where we had to lift cubes and put them on platforms to gain points. We had to redesign and rebuild the robot to do what we needed it to do and work out a game strategy. We also had to work on a Science project and we decided to base our project on the role of robots in space exploration. We learned lots about the history of space exploration, the advantages of robots in helping astronauts in their work and the future plans of NASA for robots in space. We did lots of research and presented our project on competition day. WE decided to call our robot "Astrobot" to keep with the space theme and we designed a logo that we got printed on team T-shirts. We also had to programme the robot and a few of the class were very good at that. The VEX programme is very enjoyable and helps us to develop good teamwork and communication skills as well as learning exciting things about robotics. We had a busy day in DELL at the Regional Finals in January.
