VEX ROBOTICS SCHOOL SHOWCASE: As we all enjoyed doing VEX Robotics so much, we decided to hold a showcase for our parents and the other classes in the school in advance of the Regional Final. So, on the afternoon, of Tuesday, 30th January, we welcomed all who came to hear our story. We explained to them how we had to work on different teams and how the programme helped us to grow closer as a class. We told them about sorting the VEX pieces, following the instructions in the booklets, building the robot, designing the robot, team logo and T-shirts, learning to use Scratch and ModKit Vex programmes, learning about STEM, robotics and deciding on a topic for specific research. Our presentation team presented the powerpoint presentation about Robotics in Dairy Farming and the use of Automatic Milking Systems. We also told them about the log books where we recorded our work. Many parents asked us questions and we demonstrated our driving skills. It was a great preparation for our trip to Dell.
Our driving and programming teams visited Dell a few days before the Regional Finals to get some practice in the arena. We all became very fond of our robot who we named "Clobot". Vex Robotics was a big hit in Cloverfield NS and we hope that we get to do it again next year!

VEX ROBOTICS IQ: This year our 4th, 5th and 6th class pupils are taking part in the VEX Robotics programme which involves designing, building, programming and driving our very own robot. We are all working on different teams and have been doing some team-building activities to develop our teamwork skills. We made jigsaw puzzles in groups of four without talking. That was quite challenging and showed how well we could work together. We have also been learning about Simple Machines and forces and have made simple machines using some of the parts of the VEX Robotics kit. We are really enjoying this programme and have just started to build the robot. Our Materials team make sure that the Build team have the right parts for each step of the build. Our Design team are working on a name and logo for our team. We have also been learning some Scratch programming as it is similar to the proramme that our Programming team will use to programme the robot. We will take our robot to the VEX IQ Challenge in 2018.
