September 2019
Our Aistear theme for the month of September was "Birthdays".
We had lots of fun writing invitations & shopping lists, making cakes and buns from Play-Doh, constructing party scenes from Lego, painting and decorating birthday hats, and of course during Role Play when we had lots of different birthdays to celebrate!!!
We are also learning all about autumn.
Things got messy when we painted autumn trees using our arms, hands and fingers! We used clay and matchsticks to make hedgehogs. Our fingers had to work hard to roll the ball and shape the snout! We worked hard in teams to construct scarecrows and tractors-it was tricky to begin with but we are getting very good at problem-solving!
We are learning all about patterns in Maths- we have been cutting paper and using little pegs to make patterns- it really works our fingers hard!
We are getting very good at our letter sounds in English! We can make silly words and real words using our magnetic letters and we like to match our letter counters and word sticks!

October 2019
We love listening to and acting out Fairy Tales. This month was all about Red Riding Hood! We had so much fun using our Irish words during our acting!!!
Our Aistear theme in October was "The Pizzeria" !!! We loved taking orders, finding the correct ingredients and making up pizzas for all the customers! We built restaurants with car parks out of blocks, we cut up pieces of paper to make paper pizzas and we started to learn about symmetry. We even got to make real pizzas on the final day of our theme!!! Yum!!!
We enjoy playing in the "Fine Motor Stations". Our fingers work hard and we have lots of chats about what we are doing and making!
We really enjoyed preparing for Halloween this month!
We used Play-Doh to create Halloween objects and scenes; we designed Halloween costumes and characters; we planned for and created our own potions using lots of fun ingredients; we made monster cookies and paper pumpkins and spiders; we dressed up and used our Irish Halloween words, and of course we had a little Halloween party and watched Spookley the Pumpkin!

We thought it was very funny when we did our colouring lying down on the floor!!! It made us have to work our big muscles very hard!!!
December 2019
We were very busy preparing for our Christmas Concert in December. Our concert was called "Snowmen at sunset". We had fun creating our own costumes and coming up with dance moves for the songs! We even built our very own snowman!!! We were amazing on the stage and our teachers were really proud of us!
We found some time for fun and games in December too! We made snowmen out of bottles and we were very good at designing hats for them! We also decorated cookies to look like snowmen! We had a snowball fight and even got to throw some snowballs at the teacher! We worked together in teams to build Christmas trees out of cups and managed to create some brilliant Christmas forests! Santa came to visit our school and we got to tell him what was on our Christmas lists and get a photo with him. He was very kind and gave us all a Selection Box before he left!
January 2020
January was a busy month for us in school! We were learning about the post office. We wrote letters to our parents and walked up to the post box to post them! It was very exciting! We know all about the journey of a letter now and we are looking forward to our parents receiving our envelopes in the post! We also made our own post boxes and post vans! We really enjoyed playing in the role play area-we delivered lots of parcels and letters!
We are having lots of fun with our Zumba teacher, Emily, every Wednesday morning. We know lots of Zumba moves now!
We are getting very good at practicing mindfulness. We are able to calm our bodies as well as our minds. It is very relaxing!
In maths, we were learning about weight and 2D shape. We are able to make pictures out of shapes. We are able to use the weighing scales to make things balance!
February 2020
Happy Valentine's Day!
We spent some time learning about capacity this month! Things got a little messy!!!
Our Aistear theme this month is "Space". We created our own planetarium-it was very dark inside but we had some lovely star lights & planets to look at! We got to watch some videos about the planets and our solar system. We read some stories about space and aliens and we made our very own rockets and alien spaceships!
We had fun going over our Tricky Words and sounds every day. We are getting very good at blending sounds together to make words! :)
We also spent some time learning about length. We went outside to measure different objects-it was windy!!! We are very good at making 3D objects --we play with magsnaps all the time but we also used matchsticks and playdoh this time too!
Did you know that we are composers?! We loved playing the instruments and making up our own tunes! We performed them for the class!
