We are getting very excited for Hallowe'en in the Infant Classroom!
We have lots of fun (and spooky!) plans for October!
We have lots of fun (and spooky!) plans for October!
Our Aistear theme for the month of October is 'Doctors and Dentists'. We are having great fun pretending to be doctors and patients! We also made hand x-rays, built a doctor's surgery, made our own doctor bags and played 'Operation'!
We also got the chance to be the dentist! We had great fun pretending to fix and clean our teeth!! We even had to look after Count Dracula and his toothache!! We played a tooth game (rolling the dice to see how many teeth we would add in), practised flossing with lego and play doh and played Crocodile Snap!
We celebrated Space Week 2017, which started on the 4th October. We made rockets and used them to do a science experiment! We wanted to see how far our rockets would go and we tried it from different angles.
We also made aliens by sticking fabric, tin foil and other materials together. We love our aliens!
We also read a story called 'Back to Earth with a Bump!' which was all about space. You can see the story below. We also listened to songs about space.

To finish off Space Week, we did an experiment to learn about gravity! We learned that if you drop two things at the same time, they will land at the same time... even if one is heavier! We practised this in pairs with objects we found around the room. We made sure we held them up at the same height and let go at the same time.
We also celebrated Maths Week!! We were learning about the number 1 in Junior Infants and the number 6 in Senior Infants. We worked as a team to create these numbers as a class! We also played 'What Time is it Mr. Wolf?' and revised our 2D shapes to create Frankensteins!! We continued with our Maths Stations this month too, playing games, including a Hallowe'en board game!
We have been practising our tin whistle and we are doing really well! We also got to try out other instruments to accompany our song, 'Hairy Scary Castle'. We then got to try out different types of drums and percussion instruments at our drumming workshop! We had a very musical month!
We were so excited for Hallowe'en! We made spooky Hallowe'en lanterns!
We learned about nocturnal animals like bats and made our own 'Bat Reports'!
We also tried out 'blow art' where we used water paint and straw to create spooky Hallowe'en trees!
We made potions after learning about capacity!
We made slime using corn flour and water!
We also made spiders and spider hats!
We scared everyone with our Hallowe'en costumes! We played games, sang songs and had a little party!
